Mattie's Broken Arm...

Harper & Mattie showing off their casts

Christmas Eve ~ Getting lots of sympathy from Grandma

Dr. Schlechter putting on Matthew's cast

It's a green one!
Well, I definitely jinxed myself with this one. Literally, two days before Matthew broke his arm, I was telling one of my friends that I wanted to switch HMO groups so that when, not if, Matthew breaks a bone, I can take him to the Orthopedic physicians I work with.
So....two days later, as I was nursing Jacob, Matthew disappears into my room and after a few seconds of silence, I run into my room to check on him. Well, all Matthew wanted to do was turn my TV on. No big deal, right. And then, the little bench Matthew had climbed upon went right out from under him. I tried to catch him, but it was too late. As I watched the fall happen in slow motion, I knew the second his arm made contact with the floor, that he probably was going to do some damage. And, he did.
After a few minutes of crying, he actually fell asleep on my bed. So, I let him sleep for about an hour, hoping he would feel better when he woke up. Well, no such luck. After examining his arm, I was pretty much one hundred percent sure it was broken. So, off to the ER we went.
After amazing service in the ER (VIP is always a plus), it was confirmed that Matthew had a distal radius torus fracture. Yes, just what I thought. Working as an Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner does have its advantages, especially when you're a mom of two boys. I don't think this will be our last trip to the ER for a broken bone.
At the ER, Matthew's arm was placed in a splint. Luckily, I know a few good Ortho docs. A few days later Matthew got to go see Dr. Schlechter, who put him in a fun green cast.
Matthew has adapted to his cast quite well. It has been a little bit of a challenge during meal time and bath time. It has also been difficult to keep Matthew quiet. What a joke!!!
Matthew gets his cast off next week. We are a little nervous because we don't want him to re-fracture his arm. So, once again, we will be watching him like a hawk.

Welcome to the World Jacob Michael...

Mike, Erin, & Big Brother Matthew welcomed Baby Jacob into the world on November 20, 2010 at 1:05 AM.
8 pounds 8 ounces
20 1/2 inches

My Baby Shower...

38 Weeks Pregnant...

38 weeks pregnant and counting!!!
Almost there...

Getting the Nursery Ready...

Matthew helping "Boompa" paint the nursery.
Matthew is becoming very excited to be a "big brother". He has been talking about the arrival of "Baby Douglas" much more frequently. Converting the office into the nursery has made the impending arrival of "Baby Douglas" much more real.

PS...For those of you who may not know, Matthew has referred to the baby as "Baby Douglas" since we told him mommy has a baby in her tummy. Very funny!!!

37 Weeks Pregnant...

On my way to Dr. A's office for my weekly appointment.
I am now 37 weeks pregnant and enjoying "maternity leave". The baby's nursery is still not done. We have lots to do in the next 3 weeks before our little bundle arrives.

Work Baby Shower....

My wonderful friends/co-workers were kind enough to throw me and "the bun" a baby shower. Murphy's Law prevailed, as it was one of our busiest clinic days of all time. However, we were able to sneak away for a little while to enjoy Z Pizza and yummy pumpkin rolls for dessert. Thank you Dr. Schlechter for the pizza, and Vicki, for the pink and blue pumpkin rolls.
The colors of the shower...Pink & Blue. Hmmmm! So, is it a boy or a girl?

36 weeks prego
